In the U.S. this particular month of learning about LGBTQ+ luminaries and their advocacy for human dignity and civil rights was suggested by a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lgbthistorymonth.com\/background\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/lgbthistorymonth.com\/background&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1711030711917000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1bIYzCuKSPnPm7Arqm9u82\">public high school teacher in Missouri<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States and in many other countries, the month of October was chosen because of its alignment with National Coming Out Day, which began October 11, 1988 and marks the anniversaries of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.siue.edu\/~jandris\/history\/h79.8.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.siue.edu\/~jandris\/history\/h79.8.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1711030711917000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1_lpETAL8ToEv0u7HBvX06\">First<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/gallery\/exhibit-media\/second-national-march-on-washington-1987\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/gallery\/exhibit-media\/second-national-march-on-washington-1987\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1711030711917000&amp;usg=AOvVaw12DapyCRHexRNjvl5MA-aQ\">Second Marches on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights<\/a>. Other days of importance intersecting the LGBTQ+, gender expansive, and nonbinary community also fall during October, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pronouns.org\/day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/pronouns.org\/day&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1711030711917000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0SLU2Ph9pIoHFJUOFlYRCk\">International Pronouns Day<\/a>\u00a0(third Wednesday of October), and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/intersexday.org\/en\/origin-intersex-awareness-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/intersexday.org\/en\/origin-intersex-awareness-day\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1711030711917000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3rZJ8lF2HAceaF4BCd87w_\">Intersex Awareness Day<\/a>\u00a0(October 26).
