First-Generation College Student Day is celebrated annually on November 8 to commemorate the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) in 1965. This act created federal financial aid programs to fund students\u2019 educations and made key investments in colleges and universities.<\/p>\n

A first-generation student is someone who is the first in their family to attend or complete college. Not all first-generation students are low-income, and not all low-income students are first-generation. At Emerson, the Office of Student Success, Access and Belonging is proud to support\u00a0First-Generation<\/a>\u00a0students.\u00a0Learn more about Emerson’s student organization\u00a0First Gen E-M<\/a>, and check out this week’s events and resources!<\/p>\n

ELA’s National First-Gen Day Dinner Celebration & Social<\/p>\n

Join us for an evening of dinner, games, and free swag to celebrate National First Generation Day! While the event does focus on FLI (First Generation* and Low Income) students, everyone is welcome to join!<\/div>\n

*First Generation refers to students who will be the first in their family to graduate from college or who identify as first-generation American.<\/div>\n
