About the Art

During the pandemic, we have had different experiences. For some, the pandemic enabled time for growth, introspection, relaxation, and creativity. On the other hand, others spent days feeling lost, anxious, dull, and numb. However, we have all worn masks and made time for meditation or mindfulness. Through this portrait, I wished to create a visual representation of lockdown or pandemic days that would resonate with people.

We have been overpowered by uncertainty during the pandemic, be it about the virus, the state of the world, our wellness, work, or our financial condition. Many of us have found clarity through self-awareness, assessment of lifestyles, deeper understanding, or recognizing our actual needs/desires. Regardless of mindfulness, philosophical reflections, calming techniques, or spiritual pursuits, we have witnessed chaos, haziness, and instability. Via portraiture, I wanted to represent the haziness and the myriad of emotions felt by us during these catastrophic corona times. Simply put, this series showcases a human’s reaction to isolation and captivity (animals in zoos or cages have similar reactions too.) This portrait (displaying shock) is part of a series that showed emotions such as shock, relief, goofiness, calmness, exhaustion, disappointment, anger, pain, and fear. As a result, I wanted people to connect or relate with the pictures or the emotions captured in the photos.
