The 550- seat theater, a historic landmark in Central City, affords an intimate experience with operatic and musical theater. In addition to the mainstage season, Central City Opera is noted for its famed Apprentice Artist\/Studio Program, dedicated to the education and development of the young American singer. Positions as Festival Staffers\/Interns offer an excellent introduction to careers in arts management and opera production, as well as practical experience in specialized areas of interest. Many past Festival Staffers have gone on to successful careers in these fields.<\/p>\n DESCRIPTION<\/strong>: Fourteen positions as Festival Staffers are available for the summer season, with a full time commitment from May through August. All Festival Staffers serve as ushers during most performances and perform general duties throughout the summer including office support, garden watering, facility maintenance\/light cleaning and switchboard operation. Internship areas include: office\/music library, events\/party planning, public relations, gift shop assistance, house management, stage management, wardrobe, props and wigs\/makeup. In consideration for these positions, the Opera offers free shared housing with kitchen facilities, a weekly salary of $275 and a one-time travel stipend.<\/p>\n ELIGIBILITY<\/strong>: Concurrent or previous academic coursework or practical experience in those areas of interest and be a high school graduate. Should have an interest in opera\/music theater and must have a positive demeanor and solid work ethic. The ability to deal maturely with the public is a must. Writing and photographic samples may be requested if interested in public relations; social media experience also helpful. Candidates for office\/music library and stage management positions must be able to read music and have some previous related experience in those areas. Employment is limited to citizens of the United States, students from abroad with valid student or work visas and aliens who have been granted permanent resident status by the U.S. Dept. of Justice, the Immigration and Naturalization Service.<\/p>\n APPLICATION PROCEDURES<\/strong>: Deadline: No later than March 15. Phone interviews will begin in late January and positions will be filled on a rolling basis as qualified applicants are identified.<\/p>\n ILLINOIS<\/strong><\/p>\n Steppenwolf Theatre Company<\/strong> (June- August) The Internship Program is for current students or early-career professionals looking for an introduction to arts administration and production. This program provides direct interaction with and access to Steppenwolf Theatre Company.<\/p>\n GEORGIA<\/strong><\/p>\n The Alliance Theatre<\/strong> MASSACHUSETTS<\/strong><\/p>\n A.R.T American Repertory Theatre<\/strong> College credit is available for certain internships through the intern’s sponsoring institution. Qualified applicants will be interviewed either in person or on the telephone if time and distance present a hardship.In addition to interning with A.R.T. departments, qualified interns may have the opportunity to work in their field on their own with a production for the A.R.T.\/MXAT Institute for Advanced Theater Training (which offers master’s degree programs in acting, dramaturgy, and special studies). This is an excellent opportunity for interns to apply their knowledge and gain additional hands-on experience.<\/p>\n The dramaturgy\/literary management interns assist the Dramaturg and Resident Literary Advisor through dramaturgical research and critical evaluation. Interns read and evaluate scripts submitted to the theater for possible development or production, assist the Literary Advisor in gathering research material for programs and other publications, and serve as assistants for the A.R.T.’s program of special events. Candidates for these positions should be familiar with the major dramatic authors as well as possess a demonstrated familiarity with the theatrical production process.<\/p>\n The artistic management intern gains a working knowledge of artistic administration by assisting daily in the Artistic Director’s office. The intern will maintain casting files, prepare production scripts, and generally assist the Artistic Coordinator. Candidates should be able to deal well with people, have proven abilities in organization and problem-solving, and have general office skills. Some background or interest in casting would be helpful.<\/p>\n The development intern works under the guidance of the professional development staff on all aspects of fundraising for the Theater. Responsibilities may include research on corporate, foundation, and individual prospects and assistance with special events. The intern will also assist with the maintenance of general donor correspondence and fundraising records. Candidates for this position should have proven communication and computer skills.<\/p>\n Playwrights Commons<\/strong> The Freedom Art Theatre Retreat for Emerging Playwrights, Dramaturgs and Designers Emerging Boston-area playwrights, designers, and dramaturgs, matched into creative teams together, and taken to a bucolic, peaceful, woodsy New England retreat for a week. While there, the creative teams would be tasked with brainstorming and writing\/designing\/devising theatrical projects that would have been impossible to conceive of as individual artists. As the result, intangible moments become tangible; atmosphere and style are born inseparably from creative process. The key towards unfolding the actor\u2019s creative nature underlies in the body.
