Located in the heart of Boston, Emerson is walking distance from many great parks and outdoor activities. Today we\u2019re highlighting some of our favorite Boston parks and summer programs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Boston Common and Public Garden<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the center of downtown life is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/boston\/things-to-do\/best-boston-parks#:~:text=1.%C2%A0Public%20Garden%20and%20Boston%20Common\"><strong>Boston Common<\/strong><\/a>, a lovely greenspace. As the nation\u2019s first public park, the Commons has plenty of open grass for a picnic, multiple tennis courts, and even a wading pool for kids called the <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonfrogpond.com\/spray-pool\/\"><strong>Frog Pond<\/strong><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just across the street from the Commons lies the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/boston\/things-to-do\/best-boston-parks#:~:text=1.%C2%A0Public%20Garden%20and%20Boston%20Common\"><strong>Public Garden<\/strong><\/a>. One of the most iconic parts of the Public Garden is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston-discovery-guide.com\/make-way-for-ducklings.html\"><strong>Make Way for Ducklings statue<\/strong><\/a>, built to commemorate the classic children\u2019s book by Robert McCloskey set in the Garden. Downtown offers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peterspark.org\/peters-park-dog-park\"><strong>Peters Park<\/strong><\/a>, home to a fenced dog run where you can let your dog off leash.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Southie, you can find the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sbbarkpark.org\/\"><strong>South Boston Bark Park<\/strong><\/a>. The Bark Park is located right next to Carson Beach, where you\u2019ll get a lovely view of the ocean.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re in<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/websites.emerson.edu\/grad-life\/2023\/01\/11\/where-to-live-in-boston-east-boston\/\"><strong>East Boston<\/strong><\/a>, stop by <a href=\"https:\/\/urbnparks.com\/boston\/bremen-street-community-park\/\"><strong>Bremen Street Park<\/strong><\/a>, a lovely greenspace with a fenced dog run. Watch the sailboats in the Charles River as you stroll down the <a href=\"https:\/\/esplanade.org\/\"><strong>Boston Esplanade<\/strong><\/a>. An excellent place for a jog or meditative walk, the Esplanade runs for three miles along the river from the Boston University bridge to the Museum of Science.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to a great walking path, the Esplanade offers a plethora of activities for the summer. If you\u2019re looking to build a new hobby, you might take boating lessons at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.community-boating.org\/\"><strong>Community Boating<\/strong><\/a> or rent a kayak at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/fitrec\/recreation\/sailing\/\"><strong>Boston University Sailing Pavilion<\/strong><\/a>. The Esplanade also offers an <a href=\"https:\/\/esplanade.org\/the-esplanade\/recreational-areas\/\"><strong>exercise court and multiple fields<\/strong><\/a> where you can picnic or play a pick-up game with friends. Regardless of what outdoor activities you\u2019re looking for, the Boston Esplanade is a great place to get some fresh air.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rose Kennedy Greenway<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Just a short walk from Emerson\u2019s campus, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosekennedygreenway.org\/\"><strong>Rose Kennedy Greenway<\/strong><\/a> is another one of many lovely Boston parks. Running from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rosekennedygreenway.org\/map\/\"><strong>North End to Chinatown<\/strong><\/a>, the Greenway spans 1.5 miles through the heart of the city. Full of benches, comfortable chairs, and even some porch swings, the park is a great place to sit and relax. Plus, they have free wifi along the Greenway, so you can get some work done in the great outdoors. The Greenway also offers beer gardens, splash fountains, a carousel, and plenty of food trucks for a fun summer day with friends. Or, if you\u2019re looking for something to do in the evenings, check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosekennedygreenway.org\/calendar\/\"><strong>Greenway\u2019s calendar<\/strong><\/a> for fun events.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Emerald Necklace<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With over 1,000 acres of beautiful greenspace, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emeraldnecklace.org\/\"><strong>Emerald Necklace<\/strong><\/a> is a series of parks in the greater Boston area. The Emerald Necklace is a lovely way to get to know Boston, with parks in Back Bay, Brookline, Jamaica Plains, and Dorchester. You can sign up for<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.emeraldnecklace.org\/about-us\/shattuck-visitor-center\/guided-tours\/\"><strong>walking or biking tours<\/strong><\/a>, or just hike through one of the breathtaking parks at your own pace.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Arnold Arboretum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of the Emerald Necklace, Harvard\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/arboretum.harvard.edu\/\"><strong>Arnold Arboretum<\/strong><\/a> is one of the highlights of the <a href=\"https:\/\/websites.emerson.edu\/grad-life\/2021\/08\/05\/where-to-live-in-boston-jamaica-plain\/\"><strong>Jamaica Plain neighborhood<\/strong><\/a>. The nation\u2019s first arboretum, the Arnold Arboretum is free and open to the public. With 281 acres of land, the arboretum is home to some of the most diverse plant life in the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re not sure where to start in this vast park, you can always try one of the arboretum\u2019s self-guided tours. The<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/arboretum.harvard.edu\/walks\/introductory-tour\/\"><strong>Introductory Tour<\/strong><\/a> is a half-mile introduction to the arboretum, its history, and its guiding mission. You could also complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/arboretum.harvard.edu\/walks\/explorers-garden-tour\/\"><strong>Explorers Garden Tour<\/strong><\/a>, which will highlight the arboretum\u2019s history of collecting plants from around the world.
