July in Boston means free outdoor movie nights<\/a><\/strong>, tanning on the Esplanade docks, and roaming local public markets<\/strong><\/a>. It also marks Independence Day celebrations! As one of the most historically rich cities in the United States, Boston hosts an array of unique Fourth of July celebrations, attracting thousands of people each year. 1. Boston Pops Firework Spectacular – The Charles River Esplanade<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When people think about the Fourth of July in Boston, this event readily comes to mind! As the most popular firework show in the city, the display is also accompanied by the Boston Pops orchestra<\/strong><\/a>. Located along the Charles River Esplanade<\/strong><\/a>, entrance is free and accessible via the MBTA Green Line (Arlington) or Red Line (Charles\/MGH). <\/p>\n\n\n

If the live music aspect appeals to you most, the Boston Pops will be performing within the Hatch Memorial Shell<\/strong><\/a> at 7 PM. The event can draw a significant crowd, so set up your perfect picnic spot in front of the stage as early as you can! The gates to the Oval lawn open at noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After two hours of spirited music and special guest performers, the Mugar Family Fireworks show begins at 9:40 PM! The fireworks will be cast over the Charles River, so if you can see the river, you\u2019ll be able to see the fireworks! Don\u2019t be afraid to stretch out and try to find a seat on a nearby dock or grassy area. Perfect for families, friends, or even a solo night, this firework spectacular has it all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Prudential Center Rooftop – Back Bay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Prudential Center<\/strong><\/a>, or \u201cthe Pru\u201d to Bostonians, isn\u2019t only a place for rigorous 9-5s and some light shopping. It also boasts a vibrant rooftop deck with fun events all summer long. With an expansive 360\u00b0 view of the city on the open-air roof deck, you\u2019ll be able to see fireworks for miles on July 4th. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While these views are something to behold, this Fourth of July celebration requires a ticket purchase to attend. The least expensive option for adults ages 13-64 is $50, offering general admission<\/strong><\/a> to all three levels of the View Boston<\/strong><\/a> observation deck. Alternatively, the July 4th VIP Experience<\/strong><\/a> for those 21+ can be purchased for $150. While on the pricier side for those with student budgets, each VIP ticket includes two drink vouchers, a food voucher, and access to all three levels of View Boston, as well as the private VIP area overlooking the Charles River. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regardless of your ticket type, admission to the observation deck begins at 7 PM with the latest admission at 10 PM. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. MIT Campus\/Cambridge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Big crowds not your vibe? No problem! Venture over to Memorial Drive on the Cambridge side of the Charles River by taking the Red Line to the Kendall\/MIT stop. Bring a blanket and enjoy the view of the Mugar Family Fireworks show starting at 9:40 PM, as mentioned above. <\/p>\n\n\n

In previous years, there have even been speakers projecting the Boston Pops<\/strong><\/a> orchestra show into Cambridge. This means you\u2019ll be able to hear the orchestra\u2019s famous rendition of Tchaikovsky\u2019s \u201c1812 Overture,\u201d complete with real cannons and live church bells, without having to race to get a spot in front of the Hatch Memorial Shell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Castle Island – Southie <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although Southie has access to a number of beaches, it\u2019s often forgotten about when it comes to the Fourth! Castle Island<\/strong><\/a>, located on the easternmost side of Southie near Carson Beach, is another less crowded option to view fireworks on Independence Day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While it doesn\u2019t have as direct a view as the Charles River Esplanade, sources say that on a clear night, you can see fireworks from not only the Boston Pops Firework Spectacular, but also other displays from Quincy and beyond. Want to grab a quick bite to bring along? Head to Sullivan\u2019s on Castle Island<\/strong><\/a> for lobster rolls, ice cream, and frozen yogurt! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Christopher Columbus Park\/Long Wharf – Waterfront<\/h2>\n\n\n

Have plans to celebrate the Fourth of July outside of the city, or just really crazy about firework displays? Watch the Boston Harborfest<\/strong><\/a> firework show on Wednesday night, July 2nd! This two-day festival boasts hundreds of patriotic activities (many of which are free), including an annual firework show before the big holiday.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With fireworks launched from the barge at Long Wharf, this magnificent firework display is visible from nearly anywhere along Boston\u2019s Inner Harbor Waterfront. Find a comfortable viewing spot at Columbus Park, the North End, Seaport, or even East Boston. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
