Maybe you\u2019ve been accomplishing this by printing out a document for students to write on and mark up. Then you asked for the students to turn in the paper copy, or maybe scan the document they\u2019ve worked on.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Canvas has the ability to do this without the print outs! It\u2019s called a Student Annotation Assignment. You can create one by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-create-an-online-assignment\/ta-p\/950\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">creating an assignment in the usual way<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Under <\/span><b>Submission Typ<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>e<\/strong>, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-create-an-online-assignment\/ta-p\/950#select_online_submission_type\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">select <\/span><b>Online<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and then <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-create-an-online-assignment\/ta-p\/950#select_online_entry_options\"><b>Student<\/b> <b>Annotation<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Then you <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-create-an-online-assignment\/ta-p\/950#select-annotation-file\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">upload the document that you want students to annotate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. If you use <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-use-SpeedGrader\/ta-p\/757\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Speedgrader<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, this will look familiar to you!
