The&nbsp;NEH&nbsp;deadline for eligible proposal submissions is Wednesday,&nbsp;<strong>September 18<\/strong>. The maximum award amount is <strong>$8,000<\/strong> for projects beginning between May 1, 2025 and September 1, 2026. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Summer Stipend program &#8220;aims to stimulate new research in the humanities and its publication. The program works to accomplish this goal by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Providing small awards to individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supporting projects at any stage of development, but especially early-stage research and late-stage writing in which small awards are most effective<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Funding a wide range of individuals, including independent scholars, community college faculty, and non-teaching staff at universities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two consecutive months.&nbsp; NEH funds may support recipients\u2019 compensation, travel, and other costs related to the proposed scholarly research.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Individual Applicants.<\/em><\/strong> An individual who has <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not previously held an NEH award in any of its programs for individuals;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does <strong>not<\/strong> require the nomination of their institution (see <strong>&#8220;Faculty Nomination&#8221;<\/strong> below); and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is either a U.S. citizen residing domestically or abroad, or a foreign national who has lived in the U.S. (or its jurisdictions) for at least three years prior to the application deadline, are welcome to apply. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Faculty Nomination.<\/em> <\/strong>If you are tenured or on a tenure track and teach full time at an institution of higher education that is not exempt from nomination, your institution must nominate you to apply for a Summer Stipend. Institutions of higher education in the United States and its jurisdictions may each nominate <strong>one faculty member per deadline<\/strong>. Faculty members of any rank, who have not held a previous award for individuals, are eligible for nomination. Self-nominations are not allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><strong><em>Exceptions to the faculty nomination requirement. <\/em><\/strong>You may apply without a nomination if you are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>non-tenure-track faculty at an institution of higher education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a staff member, but not faculty, at an institution of higher education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>emeritus faculty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For information on applying for the Provost&#8217;s NEH Summer Stipend applicant nomination please refer to  <strong>&#8220;Emerson Faculty Nomination Process&#8221;<\/strong> below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Emerson Faculty Nomination Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, Emerson may nominate <strong>one<\/strong> full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty to apply for a Summer Stipend. The Provost serves as the College&#8217;s Nominating Official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On or before <strong>Monday, August 19<\/strong>, potential applicants must complete the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScugwM_q1K4-pWHjIGPIlG5WR81SXKBnxBUq_RG442HB3xd8w\/viewform?usp=sf_link\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScugwM_q1K4-pWHjIGPIlG5WR81SXKBnxBUq_RG442HB3xd8w\/viewform?usp=sf_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Application Form for Provost&#8217;s Nomination<\/a>&nbsp;via Google Forms.&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Applicants must include a one-paragraph summary of their proposed project for review by the Provost<\/strong>.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By\u00a0<strong>September 1,<\/strong>\u00a0after review by the Provost, the nominee will be notified by the Office of Research and Creative Scholarship. The nominee will then have the opportunity to complete their proposals in time for submission to the\u00a0NEH\u00a0by its\u00a0<strong>September 18<\/strong>\u00a0deadline.\u00a0 \u00a0<br><strong><br>Proposal Submission<\/strong>: Applications to\u00a0NEH\u00a0are submitted via\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/grants.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grants.gov<\/a> directly by the individual.
