{"id":1165,"date":"2024-10-01T13:11:43","date_gmt":"2024-10-01T17:11:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/websites.emerson.edu\/orcs\/?p=1165"},"modified":"2024-10-01T13:11:43","modified_gmt":"2024-10-01T17:11:43","slug":"call-for-proposals-graduate-research-assistantship-gra-program-deadline-october-21-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/websites.emerson.edu\/orcs\/2024\/10\/01\/call-for-proposals-graduate-research-assistantship-gra-program-deadline-october-21-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Proposals: Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) Program (Deadline: October 21, 2024)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In partnership with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.emerson.edu\/departments\/graduate-studies\/graduate-student-association\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Graduate&nbsp;Student Association<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.emerson.edu\/departments\/graduate-studies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Office of&nbsp;Graduate&nbsp;Studies<\/a>, the Office of&nbsp;Research&nbsp;and Creative Scholarship (ORCS) is again soliciting proposals to support&nbsp;Graduate&nbsp;Research&nbsp;Assistants&nbsp;to work with and be mentored by a faculty member for the 2024-25 academic year.&nbsp; The intent is to extend the student\u2019s classroom learning, expose them to current challenges in their discipline, build analytical skills, and provide a meaningful work experience that will also benefit faculty in the development of their&nbsp;research&nbsp;and scholarship agenda. Through this program, we also hope to encourage faculty to submit external grant applications that include support and roles for graduate research assistants.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to the generosity of GSA and Grad Studies, a total pool of $12,000 is available this year to support a limited number of GRA positions for this academic year. If you are interested in hiring a GRA this year, please submit a completed proposal, using the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdPxIBIhkUTQ3iksKuyCS_Wz6tGALMJRyzdcDK0Z9daO7SS7w\/viewform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GRA Application Form<\/a>&nbsp;by the deadlines listed in the Calendar below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: Proposals that do not use the required&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdPxIBIhkUTQ3iksKuyCS_Wz6tGALMJRyzdcDK0Z9daO7SS7w\/closedform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google Form application<\/a>&nbsp;will not be reviewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deadline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The application deadline for the FY2025 GRA grant will be on&nbsp;<strong>October 21, 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Upcoming Grant Period<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Grants awarded in FY2025 must be conducted between&nbsp;<strong>November 1, 2024 and June 15, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*Note: If you hire a graduate student in their final year, they may not work beyond their date of graduation (December 31 for fall graduates; May 9, 2025 for spring graduates)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>GRA Funding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The maximum award will be&nbsp;<strong>$2,000<\/strong>&nbsp;per student, though amounts awarded are dependent on the number of applications received and availability of funding. The funds can be used to hire a graduate student assistant at a recommended&nbsp;<strong>hourly rate of $16.00<\/strong>. Additionally, a portion of the amount requested may be allocated to the costs associated with a mentored GRA attending a relevant academic or professional conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proposals need to include a clear and concise description of the project, the expected outcomes, and how the work will be evaluated and\/or disseminated. Applicants should outline how this work benefits their discipline, their professional research\/scholarship agenda, and the student. Applicants should include a short job description for the Graduate Research Assistant position, including responsibilities, required skills, and any other pertinent aspects that will be used when the open position gets posted on the Student Employment website. If the application includes funds for conference travel, the applicant must identify the conference, its location and dates, and explain how it will enhance the student\u2019s learning and academic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>For Faculty<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Full-time term and tenured\/tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>For Students<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Students must be enrolled in Emerson graduate courses as part of a degree-seeking program during the academic year, and&nbsp;not&nbsp;be employed by the College as a teacher or affiliated faculty member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Undergraduate students are not eligible to be hired using GRA funding. Applicants can fill out the application and make changes to the form until the proposal due date.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FY2025 Calendar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Initial Cycle<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>October 1, 2024:\u00a0<\/strong>GRA Application cycle opens<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>October 21, 2024 :\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdPxIBIhkUTQ3iksKuyCS_Wz6tGALMJRyzdcDK0Z9daO7SS7w\/closedform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GRA Google Form Applications<\/a>\u00a0are due<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>By October 31, 2024:\u00a0<\/strong>Review and selection of applications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>By November 8, 2024:\u00a0<\/strong>Applicants notified of funding decisions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>November 17, 2024 through June 15, 2025*:\u00a0<\/strong>Approved projects conducted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*Or date of graduation for students in their final semester\/year of study<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Review and Selection of Applications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ORCS will review the applications and make recommendations for selection to the Office of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Student Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Second Round \u201cContingency\u201d Application Cycle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the event the full GRA funding pool is not awarded following the conclusion of the Fall application cycle, a second, smaller application cycle will be held at the beginning of the Spring semester. Applicants for the second cycle cannot be Initial Cycle recipients. ORCS will email an announcement to faculty in early January with a link to a new application form if funding is available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Questions?
