By Kalie Crago ’20

Whew! With just a few remaining weeks in the semester, it’s almost time for your student’s well-deserved Winter Break. Although this is undoubtedly an exciting time, it can be a stressful one too. But don’t worry! With this end of semester checklist, your student’s final duties will be accomplished in no time.

The most obvious duty that needs to be finished before the end of the semester is completing final projects and exams. Make sure your student reviews their notes and syllabi to determine what needs to be done at what time. This way, your student can formulate a plan as how to best prioritize their work while also ensuring that no deadline falls through the cracks. Though for many students this is the most daunting part of the semester, organization will help set them up for success.

Ensure that your student is familiar with these deadlines and what each of their applications require. Need help with a resume or cover letter? The Career Center still has some availability for last minute appointments!

Finally, make sure your student is up to date on their travel plans. If your student lives in a dorm, they should unplug all electronics before leaving for the break. In addition, it’s always a good idea to clean up their living space to prevent returning to a messy room after break. An email from Reslife regarding all of these tasks should have been sent out to your student so make sure they are checking their email. Aside from these tasks, remind your student what they need to do to ensure a smooth and safe trip back home. Do they need to print out a boarding pass? Buy an Amtrak ticket? Finally, finding a balance between over and under-packing is a must!

Although accomplishing these multitude of deadlines and responsibilities can be
stressful, planning ahead and organizing tasks will ensure that your student takes it all in stride. And don’t forget, soon your student will be rewarded. Once these final tasks are completed, nearly a month of relaxation awaits!
