Profile: Alayne Fiore
Alayne Fiore is a member of the exclusive Emerson “quadfecta” club: She is or has been an Emerson undergrad student, Emerson grad student, Emerson staff member, and Emerson faculty member.
Her current staff role is operations manager and special assistant to the vice president in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, a position that she has held since February 2013. She oversees the development and implementation of operational systems and processes; manages the departmental budget; serves as project manager; and coordinates events for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, including the Women’s Leadership Summit, Lunch and Learns, and Bring Your Loved Ones to Emerson. She is also currently staffing search committees for four senior administrative positions.
Fiore is tasked with managing the vice president’s calendar and prioritizing requests from internal and external partners for office partnerships and sponsorship requests. Fiore also assists the other departments within the Division of Diversity and Inclusion: the Elma Lewis Center, Service Learning, Title IX, and Violence Prevention and Response. She also co-facilitates EmCares, the Emerson Resource Group for faculty and staff parents and caregivers.
She transitioned to Diversity and Inclusion after spending eight years in the Student Accounts Office, where she was assistant director and senior assistant direct of student accounts. Her job responsibilities there included billing reconciliation for half of the student population. She was also the College’s Perkins Loan coordinator and handled exit interviews for graduating students, deferment requests, refunds, and collections.
Emerson has been home to Fiore for so long because she loves the community. She finds the students to be “unique and brilliant” and is inspired by the positivity and creativity of her coworkers.
A native of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, Fiore moved to Boston to attend Emerson and graduated with a BA in Media Studies in 2005. A few years later, she completed the Professional Studies Literary Publishing certificate program and launched Rozlyn Press, a press that publishes women fiction writers. Her newest book, Rozlyn: Short Fiction by Women Writers, is available through her website and features stories by Emerson undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni. She enrolled in the MFA in Creative Writing program last year.
As some people are already aware, Fiore also found love at Emerson. She met ECPD officer Ralph Fiore while she while standing outside of 216 Tremont Street in 2006. Who knew that a Red Sox bet would someday lead to a marriage proposal on horseback on the Common?
The Fiores have a daughter, Avery, and they live in Melrose, Massachusetts. When not spending time with her family, Fiore enjoys keeping up with TV shows and reading short fiction. She will not have as much free time this fall, however, as she will be teaching a section of WR 101: Intro to College Writing with the First-Year Writing Program.
