Profile: Janet Nadeau

Janet

Janet Nadeau is the senior administrative associate in the Department of Marketing Communication. Prior to starting this position a year ago, she was the administrative assistant in the Communication Studies Department for two years.

One of her main responsibilities is to support the department’s 41 full-time and affiliated faculty members, who teach courses in the Marketing Communications major, Business of Creative Enterprises major, the E3 minor, and the graduate marketing program. She collects course syllabi from faculty each semester in order to develop an office hours schedule and then submits the syllabi to the Dean’s Office. She also schedules graduate students’ capstone presentations at the end of each year. When the department invites candidates to interview for faculty positions, she books the travel and schedules their presentations.

On an annual basis, she writes contracts for all of the affiliated faculty. She also hires undergraduate and graduate students to support the department. Other duties include booking spaces and catering for departmental events, coordinating the department chair’s schedule, and drafting correspondence. She also handles the department’s work orders and printing and copying requests. The end of each fiscal year is always a busy time for Nadeau, since she has to reconcile the budgets for the different academic programs.

She enjoys working at the College because of its liberal and autonomous environment. Being in the Marketing Communication Department is “right up her alley,” since she has an educational background in writing. She has an AA in business studies and a BA in English from Bridgewater State.

Nadeau worked in admission and development and alumni relations at Brandeis University for eight years before arriving at Emerson. She’s also been a part-time retail sales specialist for cosmetics and perfume for 40 years.

She grew up in Raynham, Massachusetts, and is currently building a house in nearby Dighton. In her spare time, she likes to visit her daughter, who lives in California, and her son, who recently moved to North Carolina. She enjoys spending time with her 18-month-old twin grandsons. In the summertime, she looks forward to riding her bike by the ocean in Bristol, Rhode Island, and visiting Mayflower Beach on the Cape. Travel is another favorite pastime; she’s seen most of the U.S. and Ireland, Greece, and France are on her bucket list. She also enjoys reading and writing fiction, and is hoping to take a writing course at Emerson this summer.
