Announcements: Professional and Personal News

  • Mikhail Gershovich, Liselda Fabian, and Liam Gillen (ELA) attended the California Internship and Work Experience Association’s Spring 2018 Conference April 3–5 at the Millennium Biltmore Los Angeles.
  • Emerson participation was in full force at this year’s Nercomp Annual Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, March 27–28. Staff from the Instructional Technology Group (Jenn Stevens, Illona Yukhayev, Natalie Hebshie, Weiyang Liu) and the Library (Cate Schneiderman and Tina Dent) gave a presentation titled “Course Design Spa: Bringing Calm to the Start-of-the-Semester Rush, and staff from ITG and IT (Jenn Stevens, Frankie Frain, and Carlin Corrigan) led a session titled “Improving Your IT Communications Through Interdepartmental Collaboration.”

  • Robert Eckard (ELA) attended the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, for a week in March.
  • Meredith Ainbinder (Office of the General Counsel) recently began her term as president of the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts, a leading organization for women attorneys interested in career development, social justice, and public policy. She has long been involved in the legal community. She has been a member of the WBA Board of Directors for nine years, including serving as vice president and secretary, and also co-chaired the WBA’s Public Relations Committee and In-House Counsel Committee.

  • Members of the Student Affairs Staff Social Committee surprised Kathryn Egizi (Athletics) and Laura Owen (Center for Health and Wellness) with flowers and a poster signed by colleagues to wish them good luck with running the 2018 Boston Marathon. Egizi ran for the charity Dream Big! and Owen ran for the charity Samaritans.

  • Dan Crocker (Library) and Shelley Schlief (formerly ECAPS) are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Art, on April 7. She arrived six weeks early and is resting comfortably and meeting all milestones so far at the Beth-Israel NICU, and Mom and Dad are busily readying their JP apartment for her imminent arrival.

  • Jon DiLeo (IT) married Jackie O’Brien on March 31 at the Publick House Historic Inn in Sturbridge, MA.

  • Annelle Kallman (ECAPS) and her husband, Zach, welcomed Ophelia Brooks Stuppy on March 24.

  • Amy Elvidge (Sustainability) and Jacqueline Martinez (Marketing) invite colleagues to join their team for Project Bread’s 50th Annual Walk for Hunger on May 6. The Walk for Hunger is the oldest pledge walk in the United States and the largest annual one-day fundraiser to alleviate local hunger in Massachusetts. Email Amy and Jacqueline for more details.
