Profile: Erin Clossey
You have probably seen Erin Clossey at events around campus over the past three and a half years. As associate director of news and information in the Communications Office, she writes and edits content for Emerson Today, the College community’s website for news, information, and events. Before Emerson Today launched last September, she was responsible for writing news stories for the main College website. Emerson Today is a more robust information-sharing platform through which users can subscribe to daily or weekly emails that feature six different categories of news and announcements. During the academic year, Clossey also compiles a weekly events email, “Next Week at Emerson.”
Clossey and her team find news stories from a variety of sources. Some are pitched from Emerson community members, and others are found through media monitoring software or through social media. Information from other department sites and blogs is also shared on Emerson Today.
During the academic year, Clossey writes or edits 7–10 stories, announcements, and multimedia content per week. She also assigns reporting, photography, and video duties to approximately six student employees. Occasionally, she helps write and edit internal communications, such as emails and reports.
When asked what she enjoys about working here, she responded, “I like the sense of community…the sense of belonging that you get here.” She also noted that the stories waiting to be told about the Emerson community are incredible.
Prior to arriving at Emerson, Clossey was the editor of the Brookline TAB, a community newspaper in Brookline, Massachusetts, for nine years. She started her career at other community newspapers in the Greater Boston area. She has a BA in English from Mount Holyoke College and an MA in journalism from Boston University.
She grew up in Adams, Massachusetts, and she and her partner, Jim, currently live in Waltham, Massachusetts. Some of her favorite hobbies include cooking and reading. She also enjoys hiking and camping in northern New England; her next vacation destination is Acadia National Park this summer.
