Four Questions with Paul Dworkis

Emerson welcomed a new vice president for administration and finance in December. people@Emerson asked Paul Dworkis to answer four questions:

Where did you work prior to your arrival at Emerson?
For the last six and a half years, I was the chief financial officer at the University of Maryland in College Park. Prior to that, I worked at Columbia University for three and a half years as chief of staff and CFO for the Student and Administrative Services division. Previously, I was in the corporate world, including serving as the chief financial officer at Newsweek for more than 20 years.

What is your favorite thing about Emerson so far?
The ambition to be the best at what we do, on a scale both large and small. I have seen this at every level: students, faculty, staff, and leadership, including the Trustees. It is very inspiring.

What are you excited about working on during your first year here?
The Marlboro Alliance has been a significant focus in my first few months, and I am excited to help bring this to a successful conclusion. I am also actively engaged in leading the effort to improve the College’s long-term financial health—to engage with the campus community on sustainable improvements and efficiencies to our business practices, to increase the service capabilities of our administrative units, and to help leverage our Workday system in ways beneficial to the campus at-large.

What is your favorite thing about Boston so far?
Walking through Boston Common every morning, seeing the dogs and their owners enjoying the crisp air and the open space, the sledders out and just having fun (when there was snow), and the relative calm of the commuters making their way through the park setting, all in the midst of a bustling city.
