Profile: Erin Glover
Erin Glover is the associate director in Student Accessibility Services (SAS). She works with students who have a range of disabilities: learning, psychological, physical, medical, visual, hearing, and autism spectrum. She manages a caseload of around 250 students each semester, giving them individualized support to determine appropriate academic and housing accommodations. Examples of academic accommodations include extended time for exams, break from class, extensions for assignment deadlines, and consideration for absences. Housing accommodations might include being approved for a single room, being given access to a reduced-traffic bathroom, or being released from the housing contract.
Glover works with faculty to help them understand how accommodations can be implemented within the context of their courses, striking a balance of reasonable accommodations with upholding course expectations so the student will still meet the outlined learning objectives. She also supports faculty in nuanced situations, such as whether or not a course withdrawal may be appropriate or if a student should continue forward if they exceed a reasonable number of absences.
She also represents SAS on a number of committees. This past year, she served on the Future of Emerson committee with staff and faculty, represented SAS on the Care and Support Team and Post-Deposit Group, and served on a staff committee for the Self-Care Fair and Fresh Check Day events. She also collaborates regularly with colleagues across campus regarding accommodations and support for students; some of the departments she works with are Advising, Student Care and Support, Student Success, and Housing and Residential Education.
In July, Glover will celebrate eight years at Emerson. She joined the College as an assistant director in SAS. She enjoys working at Emerson because of the unique, creative, and passionate students and her collaborative and supportive colleagues. She also loves that “every day is different.”
Prior to arriving at Emerson, Glover was the coordinator for disability services at Simmons College (now Simmons University). She has a BS in rehabilitation and disability studies from Springfield College and an MA in professional higher education administration from the University of Connecticut.
Glover is a native of Abington, MA, and currently lives in Newton, MA, with her husband, who is originally from Liverpool, England. One of her favorite pastimes is recharging with a good book at the beach. She is a fan of light, easy reads by authors such as Colleen Hoover and Frederik Backman. Her go-to beach is Revere Beach, but she grew up going to Nantasket Beach in Hull, MA. She also enjoys traveling and has most recently been to Rome and Liverpool. She proudly supports the Liverpool Football Club (YNWA) and is lucky to attend a few matches each season, as her husband has season tickets. Stateside, she watches games at Phoenix Landing with other LFC supporters. She has even been known to listen to midweek matches on the radio in her office. Because she has celiac disease, she’s always looking for new gluten-free spots to try. She can highly recommend the gluten-free chocolate glazed donuts at Kane’s Donuts!
