Useful On-Campus Resources for Staff
If you’re on the Boston campus and find yourself in need of a snack, a notary, or a phone charger, never fear! Staff have access to a multitude of fun and useful resources:
Vending Machines
Within the winding corridors of the Walker Building, you may turn a corner and stumble upon one of two areas with vending machines. Located on floors 2 and 4, the machines offer contactless tap payments such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, and you can even tap your Emerson ID if you’d like to pay with EC Cash.
Notaries
In need of a notary? HR lists the three on-campus notaries on this page. Contact them directly to make an appointment.
IT Resources
Did you know that staff can borrow a number of electronic and computer equipment items from the IT Help Desk? If you’ve left your laptop at home or your phone is about to die, the IT Help Desk can help. You can request to borrow any of the following items for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 14 days.
Some of the available items are:
- Dell and Mac laptops along with compatible chargers
- iPhone/iPad chargers
- iPads
- SD card readers, USB disk drives, Blu-ray decks
- Various adapters (USB-C adapters, audio adapters, etc.)
- Projectors
- PA systems
- Microphones (various types)
- Podcasting kits
- Power extension strips
You can make a request to reserve an item through the department’s online patron portal. You can also email helpdesk@emerson.edu for assistance.
Fax Machine
Although fax machines may be sparse in the modern technological world, they’re still needed at times! You can find a fax machine on the 5th floor of the Tufte PPC in the Performing Arts Department. Instructions for use are posted above the machine.
Emerson Lingo Webpage
Whether you’re new to Emerson or just in need of a refresher, the Emerson Lingo webpage is a helpful primer for understanding our many acronyms and more. What’s the UBank Building? Where can you find the MSC? What does 20PP stand for? All your answers can be found at this nifty link.
#chuckslist
Just when you thought Slack couldn’t get any more helpful…On the #chuckslist channel, staff give away unwanted office items to their colleagues. Just post a picture of the items you don’t need anymore and someone might just swing by to claim it. Staff have “chucked” everything from mugs and lamps to office supplies, and even some furniture if you’re lucky. Slack channel ID: C0DP5DV3Q
#freefood
Feeling a little peckish? Another helpful Slack channel is #freefood. Similar to #chucklist, staff can alert their colleagues when they have leftover food from events. Make sure to check it out for some great snacks! Slack channel ID: C046E3PKL5C
