Dominic Correia is the associate director of alumni digital engagement and promotions in Institutional Advancement (IA). He manages email and social media campaigns for Alumni Relations. The office has its own social media channels, but Correia often collaborates with the Marketing team to cross-post on the College’s main social media channels.

Alumni Relations hosts multiple events per week for alumni and the broader Emerson community. Correia is responsible for inviting people to participate and thanking participants after an event occurs. He drafts email invites, obtains distribution lists from Advancement colleagues, and sends out the invites. He also posts the invites on Instagram, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn.

After an event, he drafts and sends out a thank you email. He also edits a short video recap to share on social media. If the event is on campus, he usually captures footage himself and edits it. If the event is not local, he edits footage that is sent to him from an attendee.

Correia sends out four or five emails per week and publishes Instagram story posts daily. He creates and distributes a monthly alumni newsletter that promotes upcoming events and shares campus news. He also assists with drafting and distributing emails for any alumni-focused events that occur on our LA and Kasteel Well campuses.

Correia uses a variety of software to carry out his job duties. He designs most of his posts and emails in Canva, but sometimes uses Photoshop for more complex designs. He edits videos in Adobe Premiere and uses Emma for emails.

Correia supports all of IA’s main annual events: Giving Day; Commencement; Alumni Weekend; a Boca Raton brunch; and a presence at festivals such as SXSW and Sundance.

He recently celebrated his two-year anniversary at Emerson. He said that one of his favorite things about working at Emerson is his teammates in IA. He also finds fulfillment in his work because his responsibilities align with his personal interests in video production, graphic design, and social media. He said that he enjoys learning new things, which is beneficial, because social media algorithms change all the time and the capabilities of video are always advancing.

Prior to his arrival at Emerson, Correia worked in marketing logistics at Education First. He is a native of Newton, MA, and Dorchester, MA, and credits the stellar video equipment at his high school for sparking his interest in video production. He attended St. John’s University for a year before transferring to UMass Boston, where he graduated with a bachelor’s in marketing and business and entrepreneurship.

Correia currently lives in Somerville, MA, with his 8-year-old son, whom he describes as a “little me.” In his free time, he enjoys creating content for his own social media channels and for the Boston nonprofits 617Peak and PIONEERS Run Crew. He also enjoys some musical pursuits: He used to write hip hop music and is the creative director of a boutique label called Words Speak Life. He also helps with the brand management of two Boston Music Award Best New Artist winners, Yanna G and Nay Speaks. Suffice it to say that Correia lives and breathes content creation!
