First-Generation College Student Day is celebrated annually on November 8 to commemorate the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) in 1965. This act created federal financial aid programs to fund students’ educations and made key investments in colleges and universities.
A first-generation student is someone who is the first in their family to attend or complete college. Not all first-generation students are low-income, and not all low-income students are first-generation. At Emerson, the Office of Student Success, Access and Belonging is proud to support First-Generation students. Learn more about Emerson’s student organization First Gen E-M, and check out this week’s events and resources!
