DIGITAL AND VIRTUAL INTERNSHIPS:
The Shakespeare Standard
The Shakespeare Standard offers internships in a variety of areas to qualified students in English, theatre, history, performance, mass communications, marketing, media, video production, web media and design, and others. An internship at The Shakespeare Standard is quality field experience with the web’s leading Shakespeare news, features, and discussion service. The Shakespeare Standard seeks to be at the center of Shakespeare conversation on the web and interns work closely with editorial staff to drive that conversation on a variety of platforms, including our website, Twitter, and Facebook. Internships at TSS range from academic areas in English and theatre studies, including work with our forthcoming journal and planned text initiatives to copy editing, news writing, editorial work, web development, photography and graphic design, social media development, and marketing. TSS internships provide an opportunity to work closely with existing TSS staff, including faculty members, graduate students, and other professionals across the “wide and universal” web in a setting that will enable learning through experience. These internships provide practical skills, professional connections and networking opportunities, great portfolio and resume material, and valuable work experience. Internships for TSS are handled over the web and may involve teleconferencing. Internships are secured by application, including a cover letter stating the applicant’s background and area of interest as well as a resume or CV and a work sample (i.e., a writing sample, video sample, web site, or other portfolio item as appropriate). TSS staff are happy to complete any institutional paperwork necessary for students to obtain college credit for the experience with an appropriately accredited institution in which the student is enrolled. Students who are not pursuing college credit should apply for a volunteer staff position as opposed to an internship.
