An Introduction to Drama Therapy
This training workshop will introduce you to the principles of drama therapy. Throughout the day, you will examine ways in which theatre can be used to transform lives. Explore the basic tenets of the CANY model of drama therapy through theory and group activities. Participants will experience the drama therapy process in action, gain practical skills in how to safely explore trauma and challenging life experiences through metaphor and play, and participate in drama therapy interventions aimed at improving client relatedness, self-esteem, emotional expression and self-regulation, spontaneity and the capacity to play a diverse range of life roles.

Beginning with the body, Pig Iron’s Summer Session in Philadelphia aims to train performers to be flexible, fearless, present, passionate and disciplined. The goal is to give students the skills to develop their own artistic voice while being grounded in the values of collaboration, experimentation, risk, and a curiosity about the world around us.
The Summer Session is an immersive training program for creative theatre artists interested in pushing the boundaries of contemporary performance. Rooted in Pig Iron’s own artistic questions and performance techniques, the intensive workshop is intended to launch performers into the world of physically precise, emotionally rich, imaginatively constructed original theatre. The pedagogical approach will be one of deep inquiry and research grounded in physical training and constantly seeking moments of transcendent live performance. The student’s curiosity will fuel the journey toward the discovery of the full expressiveness of the body and voice.
The Summer Session will encourage students to unlock their own creativity and will nourish true collaboration among artists. Though students will be working on provocations that come from the faculty, the ultimate goal of the workshop is to open up each student’s vision for the many possibilities of live performance.

The Duke University Department of Theater Studies, the Duke English Department, and the Duke Global Education Office for Undergraduates offer a two-course, six-week program at University College London, under the direction of Sarah Beckwith, Professor and Chair of Theater Studies. The director teaches the program with a distinguished group of British theater practitioners and scholars. Students take classes and live in a residence hall of University College London (UCL), in central London.

Through the month of July Au Brana proposes an intensive investigation into modes of storytelling and material generation for performance.
OBRA will introduce participants to its training methods, focussing on group work, in order to establish a common theatrical language that embraces psychophysical techniques. The company seeks to activate and embody imagination in relation to text, increase performer sensitivity and engage with improvised storytelling.
The residency will culminate with another session with the OBRA company, drawing together the material from the preceding weeks work, and re-exploring the work in relation to the ensemble.
The residency is limited to 15 participants, all of whom will live and work on-site at Au Brana, a formerly ruined farm now transformed into a tranquil and focussed creative environment.
The fee for the workshop is €750.00. Full board accommodation is available at the centre for the entire period for €22 per night. Travel to the centre is not included in the price. Places are limited and a deposit of €200 is required to reserve a place before 1st April. Participants will be considered based on the completion of the application form and are required to pay 50% of the total cost before arrival. Only applications for the full residency will be considered.

The Irish Theater Summer School offers a unique opportunity to learn about Irish Theater and acting through a study of text and performance. It focuses on the plays and playwrights that have made Ireland a world name in theater. The program of practical acting workshops and seminars is carefully designed to place the writers in both a theatrical and literary context. The course will concentrate on the works of four major writers: John Millington Synge, Seán O’Casey, Samuel Beckett and Brian Friel, and will also include a practical study of more contemporary writers including Martin McDonagh and Marina Carr. Students will develop an understanding of the historical and literary background of selected texts from each writer. Then, through extensive workshops with actors and directors, the theatrical essence of the work will be explored and performed.
