It’s Recognition Season at Emerson!

By Kalie Crago, Graduate Intern, ’20

As the semester draws to a close, it’s time for you and your student to reflect on the successes they’ve cultivated throughout the school year. But these acknowledgments don’t just have to stay between family. No matter what your student’s discipline, Emerson has various honors and societies to give your student the recognition they deserve.

The Purple Key Leadership Society specifically gives recognition to graduating seniors. Those that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service, solid academic achievement and a commitment to civic engagement are welcome to apply to Purple Key. Applicants are reviewed by a committee of the junior class and staff members from Academic and Student Affairs. Students are notified of their application status by the end of the fall semester.

The Emerson Recognition and Achievement (ERA) Awards recognize those involved in student and/or campus leadership as well as the infinite achievements of the Emerson College community. Students and individuals are nominated for ten individual awards. These awards include Advisor of the Year, Emersonian of the Year, Greek of the Year, Jennifer Stowers Quintal Visionary Award, Lion Pride Award, Organization of the Year, Orientation Leader of the Year, Outstanding Resident Assistant, Student Leader of the Year, and the Student Spotlight Award. The ERA Awards take place at the end of the spring semester.

The Gold Key Honor Society awards students for outstanding academic achievement. Membership is offered to juniors in the top five and seniors in the top ten percent of their class, regardless of major. Students are inducted into the Gold Key Honor Society at the end of the spring semester.

Last but not least is The EVVY Awards, perhaps the most well-known and distinguished of Emerson’s many recognition groups and societies. The EVVY Awards are the largest multi-camera student-run live awards show in the nation, recognizing achievement in the areas of Performance, Theatre, Television, Writing, Journalism, Film, Communication Studies, Marketing, and Audio & Post Production. Submissions are judged by industry professionals, making these awards especially honorable. The EVVYs take place at the end of the spring semester!

No matter your student’s year, major, or interests, there are honors and societies at Emerson that can give recognition to their hard work. As Emerson students, we are all creative forces. Awards or not, the work we do every day is worthy of recognition and praise!
