Between exams, papers, extracurriculars, and the day-to-day demands of college life, searching for that first job or internship may seem like a daunting task. Thankfully, Emerson has plenty of resources through the Career Development Center that can help! From internship and job fairs to employer site visits, Emerson has a wide array of opportunities to help your child succeed.
Getting involved in career development at Emerson doesn’t have to solely lie on your child’s shoulders. As a parent, there are plenty of opportunities to help your child and other Emersonians begin their careers. The simplest way to engage is to simply remind your child to take advantage of the Career Development Center’s offerings. Students can schedule an appointment for help with networking, resume and cover letter review, internship and job searches, interview preparation and more! 15-minute walk-in appointments are also available from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. Students should also be reminded to check Handshake and Career Buzz. These websites offer career advice, post job listings, internship opportunities, and more!
Parents can also join Emerson Connections, a database that connects students for informational interviews and other networking opportunities. By joining Emerson Connections, you can directly help students interested in your career field. You can further aid Emerson students searching for career paths by entering your company in the Internship Career Fair held each semester.
As a parent, watching your child begin to shape their career path can be anxiety inducing. But over the course of their four years, Emerson will guide your student to do great things. The Career Development Center will be a resource always ready to aid your student at any step in their journey. The Emerson community is close-knit group, and through networking events that collaborate with alumni and parents like you, the next generation of Emersonians will be sure to begin their career journeys on the right foot!
