A new sustainable system for washing your laundry has just been installed in the Little Building! Instead of using pods or liquid detergent, you can now use laundry detergent sheets from a dispenser in the building’s lobby. Using these laundry sheets from this system is both environmentally friendly and cost-efficient.
These detergent sheets are made by the company Generation Conscious a certified minority-owned New York based company that works to “create sustained change by radically rejecting the systems and structures perpetuating racial and economic injustice; carbon, plastic, water-waste and pollution—replacing these infrastructures and their consequences with systems and structures that generate true sustainability, equity and accessibility” (Generation Conscious). To learn more about Generation Conscious, their products and the work they do, visit their website here.
To use the laundry sheets, simply go to the kiosk in the Little Building and use the touch screen on the system by inputting your first name, an underscore, and your last name. You are able to dispense 10 sheets at a time with a choice of scented or unscented (hypoallergenic). The first batch of sheets are free to students. Once we run out of free sheets, the detergent sheets will cost less per load of laundry than leading brands of detergent pods.
Thank you to the Student Government Association (SGA) at Emerson for spearheading this initiative. We hope you take advantage of this new opportunity to reduce waste when doing laundry!
