K Cup Recycling

K-Cup Recycling Overview & Resources

K-Cups combine organic material and recyclable materials, making them a challenge to recycle. While it’s more environmentally friendly to skip K-Cups, Emerson recognizes that its community uses them daily. The College participates in the Grounds to Grow On program to divert Emerson K-Cups from incineration.

Each participating office designates a K-Cup recycling bin in their space and Sustainability at Emerson collects the K-Cups from offices on a monthly basis (or less frequently if needed). We send the K-Cups to Keurig where coffee and tea grounds and filters become compost and plastic and aluminum are recycled into new products! If your office or department would like to participate in Emerson’s collection program, would like to change the frequency of your collection, would like a lid for your K-Cup recycling bin, or have any questions, please contact sustainability@emerson.edu
