Emerson has received a Gold rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (AASHE STARS) program for the second time. This rating is truly a College-wide achievement given the STARS framework’s holistic definition of sustainability.
AASHE STARS is a global standard for sustainability practices in higher education. The rating process is based on transparent, self-reported data from each institution. In addition to recognizing colleges and universities around the world leading on sustainability, the transparency of the system allows for institutions to learn from each other’s initiatives and implement similar ones.
Our reporting covered everything from our emissions and waste data to a sustainability course inventory to information about the sustainability practices in place in the dining hall. Some of our biggest strengths included emissions and renewables, community partnerships, and sustainability in the curriculum.
We began reporting to STARS in 2017 and earned our first Gold rating in 2018. Our next round of reporting will take place in 2025 and we’ll spend the next few years setting ourselves up to earn an even higher score then!
