Emerson Green Collective, Emerson’s student sustainability organization on campus, has been busy this semester! Read on to learn about the group’s most recent educational sessions.
During the Thursday night weekly meetings, EGC frequently provides crash courses and lessons on specific topics requested by members. The first of the semester, “Lessons on Plant Care,” was run by Green Mag’s Editor in Chief, Alex Lang, who taught members about all kinds of plants, how to care for plants, and how to keep plants happy. After the lesson, members participated in a Kahoot quiz on all things plants and the top winners won free plants to take home. This event was also catered with vegan pizza from Stoked.
The next event was “Crystals Crash Course,” run by Arizona crystal store owner and spiritual tarot card reader Missy Pinedo, who taught members all about different kinds of crystals, how to be more spiritual, and how to improve your vibrational energy. Members asked several questions and expanded the conversation to include astrology and stars in relation to spirituality. By learning about crystal origins, members learned about the correlation between spirituality, nature, and our ecology.
Next, EGC held a “Lesson on Shopping Sustainably.” Indigo Pinedo, Vice President of Emerson Green Collective, led this lesson for members to learn about sustainable brands, greenwashing, companies to avoid, and how to be an ethical consumer within the limits of capitalism. This meeting was catered by local vegan restaurant My Thai Vegan Cafe.
All three events took place throughout February during the group’s regular meeting time. As we head into March, EGC has many plans to keep meetings fun and informative while providing members with vegan food and resources to be more sustainable and environmentally informed.
