Time flies and the semester is almost over! As you begin wrapping up another year at Emerson, consider actions to reduce your waste as much as possible.
Today, Campus Services, with the help of our four student Eco Ambassadors, is launching a reimagined sustainable move-out program called Griff Gives. From this afternoon until noon on May 6, students will have the opportunity to donate housewares, clothing, unopened nonperishable food, microwaves, and mini-fridges at six donation locations across campus. Please note that we are only accepting donations until noon on May 6 (even if you are staying on campus longer!) and we cannot currently accept mattress toppers or open food!
Below is the list of donation locations. You will see collection hampers labeled with the item that should go in each. Please do not place items for donation anywhere else. Leaving donations in the wrong locations poses a safety risk, creates confusion, makes move-out harder for your peers, and takes up valuable staff time. Please respect our entire community and leaves items in the right place!
- Little Building: Storage room past the mail room (look for the Griff Gives sign), only open from 8 am to 8 pm daily. Please plan accordingly!
- Paramount: 6th floor lounge
- Colonial: 5th and 8th floor lounges
- 2 Boylston Place: Main lobby
- Piano Row: Main lobby
We recommend that you begin going through your belongings now to identify items you may want to donate and making sure they are in proper condition for donation. This year, our donations will go to several partners:
- Housewares (everything from linens to lamps to bed risers) will go to the nonprofit organization Grad Bag. Each year, Grad Bag collects dorm essentials from college campus, spends the summer cleaning, sorting, and storing them, and then brings them to various college campuses in the fall to make sure every student has access to everything they need to live on campus! You can view a full list of what they accept below.
- Clothing will be donated to Goodwill Massachusetts. Please make sure it is clean and in good repair. Anything that can’t be worn again should instead be recycled using our Bay State Textiles bin in Allen’s Alley.
- Unopened nonperishable food will go to the Student Success Pantry to support members of Emerson’s own community.
- Mini-fridges and microwaves will be donated to our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore here in Boston. To donate an appliance, please obtain a removable appliance donation sticker from your residence hall’s tap desk. All refrigerators and microwaves must be fully cleaned! Please respect the time of our staff and donation recipients.
Thank you for your participation in Griff Gives 2023! With your help, we can eliminate waste from move-out and build the more sustainable future we all want on campus.
