Fitness at Emerson

By Jenn Wood, ’19

Emerson provides students with a wide range of services, programs, and opportunities for both on and off campus students. Students can get help with their resumes through the Career Development Center, navigate life off-campus through our Off-Campus Student Services office, and can get active and healthy through Fitness and Recreation at our Fitness Center. All of our services aim to enhance the lives and experiences of every, single Emerson student; however, for this post, we want to highlight the Fitness Center that is located on Arch Street in Downtown Crossing!

For older students, the Fitness Center was once located in the basement of the Little Building before it closed for construction in May 2017. After its move to Arch Street, the Fitness Center is still used and loved by Emerson students (and has even grown in size). Senior Political Communication student, Bailey Bouchard, loves how the Fitness Center accommodates student needs. “I like that there’s a decent amount of each type of equipment,” She says, “There’s not a lot of waiting to use machines and the hours are great for students as they are open seven days a week.” Bouchard also goes on to note how versatile the Fitness Center is, “You can truly do whatever exercise you like in the Fitness Center, there are multiple places to stretch out and to do your own thing.”

Not only are students able to use the Fitness Center but faculty and staff members can utilize its services as well! Memberships are offered to full-time students, faculty, and staff via the Fitness Membership Enrollment Form and your student cannot use the facility until the form is submitted. By having a membership, all Emerson community members get access to personalized exercise programs, group fitness classes, and training equipment from Life Fitness & Hammer Strength. Your student can also use free towels, use free day lockers or can rent their own every semester, and showers with private dressing rooms. Plus, your student can take part in several programs through the Fitness Center including intramural sports, group classes, personal exercise programs, and nutrition counseling.

With all of the services, programs, and amenities that are offered, The Fitness Center is truly dedicated to making sure all Emerson community members can get active and healthy during their time at Emerson!
