Proposal Preparation and Submission

  • Emerson Grant Pre-Approval Form. Use this form to notify ORCS of your plans to submit a grant application, and to initiate departmental chair and school dean review of your proposed project. Instructions for submitting a pre-approval request can be found here
  • Detailed Budget Form (nonfederal). Use to create a detailed, line-item proposal budget for nonfederal proposals.
  • Detailed Budget Form (federal). Use to create a detailed, line-item proposal budget for federal proposals.
  • National Endowment for the Arts, Art Works Budget Template. This has been modified to include Emerson’s current F&A rates, and additional columns for dividing project costs between the grant and matching/cost sharing accounts.

  • Subrecipient Commitment Form. To be completed by any collaborators at other higher ed institutions that will receive subcontracted funding from an Emerson proposal, if awarded. 
  • Subcontractor Letter of Commitment. To be included with a proposal to another institution that is including Emerson as a subcontractor in its own proposal budget to a sponsor.  These letters are drafted and signed by ORCS.
  • Facilities, Equipment, and Other Resources. Required in proposals to the National Science Foundation. Also required (as separate sections) in proposals to the National Institutes of Health. This document contains information about College-wide facilities, equipment, and resources, which can be incorproated with specific information for your application.  Also includes information about specific labs and research spaces. 
  • Data Management Plan. Required for proposals to the National Science Foundation, other sponsors (instructionsexample). 
  • Unfunded Letter of Collaboration. Indicates the signatory’s intent to collaborate and/or commit resources as described in a proposal, should the proposal be funded. Usually included in proposals submitted by colleagues who are based at external institutions. 
  • NIH Principal Investigator Assurance Form. In accordance with NIH Notice Number NOT-OD-06-054, and applicant organization must secure the written assurance of the Principal Investigator on an NIH proposal, and retain it internally, prior to submission. This applies to any named Co-PI’s, as well as to subcontract proposals for NIH funding.
