Many of the applications for Emerson’s graduate programs are now open. As with any school, you may be wondering, “What’s special about Emerson?” or “Is graduate school worth it?” In today’s blog we’re going to highlight some of the reasons why you should apply to Emerson’s graduate programs.

Community

Here at Emerson, graduate students form lifelong friendships. You can find community  through our clubs and organizations. Some popular clubs include the International Graduate Student Union (IGSO) and EBONI, Emerson’s Black Organization with Natural Interest. IGSO regularly hosts fun events like bowling night, and you don’t have to be an international student to participate! It’s a club for any and all Emerson graduate students to come together and relax outside of school. EBONI is another wonderful organization that built a community around political, cultural, and professional empowerment of Black Emerson students. Formal organizations aren’t the only way students connect at Emerson. Each graduate program has a designated student lounge where students can meet people in their cohort and chat between classes. If you’re looking to connect with people across graduate programs, check out the general graduate student lounge, which is open to all Emerson graduate students.

Students in online or hybrid graduate programs also have ample opportunities for connection. Students often exchange phone numbers during orientation and meet remotely to socialize or work on school projects. For more information about virtual connections in graduate school, read our blog about a low-residency student and her experience forming friendships with classmates across the country.

No matter what program you’re considering, you will have access to a great support network at Emerson.

All the Best Locations

Emerson’s primary campus is located in the heart of downtown Boston. Known as one of the nation’s most walkable cities, Boston is easy to navigate and full of culture. Located in the middle of the Theatre District and a short walk from Chinatown and the North End, Emerson is in the hub of Boston’s art and food scene.

Being an Emerson student in the city gets you plenty of perks, such as discounts at museums, restaurants, and shows in the Theatre District. Students can score discounted tickets to Red Sox games throughout the season. Home to multiple renowned sports teams, Boston is a great city for lovers of baseball, football, hockey, basketball, and more!

In addition to our vibrant Boston campus, Emerson has a campus in Los Angeles. Students in the Writing for Film and Television program will have two of their week-long in-person residencies at the LA campus. Home to the nation’s film and entertainment industry, Los Angeles is an invaluable place for future screenwriters to study. When you join the Emerson community, you gain access to an exclusive network of industry professionals, both in LA and Boston.

Giving students access to both the East and West coasts, Emerson offers excellent graduate education in some of the nation’s most desirable locations.

Networking

Emerson’s campus locations in Boston and Los Angeles create opportunities for partnerships with corporations in those cities. Thanks to Emerson’s global alumni network and strong connections in Boston and LA, graduate students have gone on to work for companies like the Boston Arts Academy, Johnson & Johnson, MSNBC, and more.

Through our robust Career Development Center, students have access to one-on-one career counseling and exclusive internship opportunities on Handshake. Current students and alumni also have access to Emerge, Emerson’s professional networking platform. Through Emerge, Emersonians can connect, find a mentor, offer professional guidance, and more.
