Emerson Resources for Time Management and Study Strategies
In the latest round of updates to the Learning Online orientation course, we’ve added new resources from our partners at the Writing and Academic Resource Center (WARC) to the Netiquette and Time Management module. The new WARC Video Guide includes 3 videos for students:
Time Management & Study Strategies
(Related resources: Canvas Calendar Overview, How do I subscribe to the Calendar feed using Google Calendar as an instructor?)
Reading Strategies
(Related resources: Installing Adobe Creative Cloud for Student Personal Use; Optical Character Recognition (OCR) in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC)
Writing and Study Strategies
(Related resources: Canvas Quizzes Overview, Canvas Groups Overview (for creating study groups for students))
Related Resources for Faculty
The Learning Online course is linked in the Orientation module of the ITG template, which is auto-loaded in each Canvas course. Although the above videos are targeted to students, they tie together nicely with some of the themes that have been a part of ITG’s recent faculty development efforts. As a reminder, the following resources were developed to help faculty design their courses in a way to support students’ time management and executive functioning skills:
- Tidying Up Canvas: In Spring 2021 we co-presented our first Tidying Up Canvas workshop to faculty with the WARC. We will be offering Tidying Up Canvas sessions in August. Dates and times can be found at teachanywhere.emerson.edu.
- Tidying Up Canvas to Help Students Stay Organized: This blog post summarizes the Tidying Up session and includes links to Canvas resources and a video demo of how to maximize Canvas’s time management features.
- Should You Create Assignments For Readings In Your Canvas Course?: This blog post and video demonstrates how to help your students manage their time with course readings by creating accompanying assignments in Canvas.
- Accessible Design: UDL for your Emerson Course: This 4-week course covers course design strategies using Universal Design for Learning principles. Application is required.
If you have any questions about the above resources, feel free to reach out to ITG at itg@emerson.edu or 617-824-8090. Students who need help with their time management and study skills can reach out to the WARC.
